90% of fishing = Commercial Starting fishing later only hurts the economy Instead: Make the first week "Catch & Release Only" This accomplishes everything they want to without hurting the tourism economy

No to banning live bait If the biologist Would check the body’s of water the leeches are trapped and live minnows to make sure there is no Ais in the water then it should be fine because the trappers that catch then have to put were there harvesting them from

I am mostly in favor of the changes.
I do question the closure of the Red for an additional week. Reducing the Walleye limit to four should itself reduce pressure on the Lake Winnipeg + tribs Walleye population(s), which IMO the structure of which is still poorly understood.

Against banning live bait. Come up with a local solution , that allows this practice to continue.

Right now, if you can take 1 70cm walleye from each of the Winnipeg River, Red River and one from Lake Winnipeg. Make it 1 only. Most people won't but if they want to mount that one and only in their lifetime and can't but can watch Ice Vikings and see those fish side in nets to not be released????

As a lodge owner in northern Manitoba, the province needs to watch how it and what it bans for bait.
We already don’t use live bait up here, just frozen minnows. Not allowing bait will kill the ice fishing industry and remove a lot of northern tourism in the winter months.

Commercial fishing needs to be reduced, it is the largest threat to populations by far. The indiscriminate killing of enormous amounts of unwanted fish (bycatch) only to be thrown away is an incredible waste of our resources.

Why is there not one on the Transcanada east of winnipeg or going into the whiteshell.. these are some of the busiest stretches of roads that see boat trailers.

There needs to be more enforcement, conservation officers are spread far too thin. Areas that have heavy fishing pressure need to be patrolled more often. Also if you are serious about preventing the spread of AIS.. then we need more stations to be set up throughout the province.

Live bait should not be banned, we can work with our local bait fish to use live bait rather than importing live bait to avoid AIS. Fishing seasons should not change to allow certain fish at certain times, too many people will keep what they shouldn’t.

The Winnipeg River sturgeon closures need to be lifted, not carried over into the regulations. They do not need this level of protection if the proposed season for them is implemented.

Can you share any scientific data you have on the effects of catch and release fishing while fish (specifically thinking about walleye) are spawning? Does being caught and released effect their ability to properly spawn?

Why is there no mention about White Bass?? Haven't caught any in the past two years and only 1 three years ago. Is it the Zebra Mussels killing them?

For those of who are saying “no to new the new regulations “ - don’t you want to have your license on your phone? Don’t you want the option of a 1 day license for your visitors? Don’t you want to protect trophy sized fish? Don’t you want to fish Bass in spring? This is what is in the proposal.

I am not sure if people understand that this proposal gets rid of the general spring closure - which would make us more like Ontario and less like Saskatchewan. Most of the negative comments are about the commercial fishery - not this proposal.
