Manitoba Trails Strategy

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

Manitoba is developing a provincial trails strategy to guide the development and maintenance of a provincial trail network for hiking, biking, snowmobiles and off-road vehicles. Trails may include motorized and non-motorized trails, as well as water routes, in both backcountry and frontcountry areas. Feedback from stakeholders, partner groups and the public will help to shape the strategy.

The Manitoba Trails Strategy will identify high-level goals, objectives and actions intended to:

  • Establish a network of recreational trails across Manitoba, including associated tourism amenities.
  • Identify supports and best practices for recreational trail development, maintenance and rehabilitation.
  • Reduce regulatory barriers to trail development.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded. Stay tuned for a survey for all current and potential trail users, which will be available in October 2020.

To inform the preparation of the Manitoba Trails Strategy, the Manitoba government is seeking input from trail organizations and builders, communities potentially affected by or interested in recreational trails, and other organizations or businesses interested in the development, use or promotion of trails. Through this survey, we invite these groups and individuals to share their views on subjects such as the trail development process, and challenges and opportunities related to recreational trails across Manitoba.

For the purposes of the Manitoba Trails Strategy, the definition of the word "trails" is broad, and includes non-motorized, motorized and mixed-use trails, as well as water routes. This also includes trails in all areas of the province - urban, rural, frontcountry and backcountry.
