Chronic Wasting Disease Survey
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a progressive, fatal disease that affects deer, elk and moose. Infected animals appear healthy in early stages of the disease but show changes in behavior and may appear thin or uncoordinated in later stages of disease progression.
This disease is caused by an abnormal protein called a prion. Prions spread from animal to animal through saliva, feces and other material, but can also survive within soil to infect other animals with CWD. If CWD becomes too common in a deer herd, it may affect the herd’s ability to survive. Males tend to contract CWD at twice the rate of females.
Thank you for participating in this survey to help evaluate hunters’ understanding of CWD and guide future efforts to reduce the spread of CWD in Manitoba. Your involvement is crucial to protecting our wildlife. Together, we can prevent the spread of CWD and help ensure healthy populations for future generations.
This survey should take about 8-12 minutes to complete. Your responses will be kept anonymous and confidential.
