The hiring process for a new independent Seniors’ Advocate has begun.
The Government of Manitoba has committed to improving care for seniors by creating an independent Seniors’ Advocate. Establishing a Seniors’ Advocate will help ensure that seniors in Manitoba not only have high-quality programs and services, but that their rights, interests, and viewpoints are represented. The Seniors' Advocate Act was introduced on May 6, 2024. The Bill received Royal Assent on November 7, 2024.
The advocate will be an independent office of the legislature. The Seniors’ Advocate Act has been proclaimed to come into force on Nov. 1, 2025.
The independent advocate will report to the legislative assembly and be tasked with identifying and evaluating issues faced by seniors and elders and making recommendations to government. These recommendations could be on a wide range of government services including health care, housing and government programs and supports.
