Apprenticeship and Certification — General Regulation, amendment Trade of Esthetician Regulation, amendment, and Trade of Hairstylist Regulation, amendment

This regulation is to:

  1. amend the apprentice to journeyperson ratio from 2:1 to 1:1, and
  2. facilitate the replacement of designated voluntary trade regulations with by-laws.
  3. update the trade programs in Manitoba to reflect the current needs of industry.

The ratio is being amended to increase safety and improve training for Manitobans in the trades and is being implemented alongside efforts to modernize the apprenticeship system in Manitoba. The amendment to allow the move of designated voluntary trade regulations to board by-laws will permit the Apprenticeship and Certification Board (Board) to streamline their response to industry needs that are brought forward by stakeholders and allow quick alignment with national standards and industry needs, to ensure that Manitoba apprentices receive the relevant training in a timely manner. Several existing apprenticeship programs have been identified as no longer relevant for industry, or their programs are out of date, therefore, the amendments will allow for the apprenticeship system to be current to industry demands.
